School news

Well, the kids have been in school for about 5 weeks and the kids have plenty to keep them busy. Anthony's first weeks adjusting to middle school life has taught him that he needs to stay organized. He is currently working on his science fair project, which he is looking at building materials and their reaction to tsunamis. His summary is due tomorrow, which he is sitting and typing right now. The cool thing about the project is that the teaching assistant in the course is a student at UF in the sciences and might have access to a wave machine for Anthony to do his experiment. He likes most of his courses and has learned the importance of showing his work in his advanced math course.

Alex has started in the gifted program in second grade. Right now, this means that she is being pulled for a more advanced math, with additional problems and a bit more advanced concepts. She loves it because she has several friends in that class with her. Many of which came to her birthday party this last weekend.

We put Joshua in prekindergarten this year to fine tune motor skill issues and to continue to work on his maturity. His reading skills may be the best at that age of the three, and is starting to show his predilection to use his left hand for cutting and writing.

All in all, a great start to the year.

Dominican Trip

We returned from Dominican Republic late on Tuesday after traveling down to Punta Cana for Nicole's 20th high school reunion.  There were about 15-20 people from Nicole's class in attendance, and all seemed to have a good time.  We were at an all inclusive resort for the first time as a family.  The kids loved it.  All the food they could choose to eat (7 restaurants to choose from, and one was an "all you can eat" buffet.  The kids ate their fills.), followed by beach, pool, games, etc.  Anthony ended up saying it felt like a second home.

Summer is almost here

Since it is nearly 90* just about every day (thank goodness without too much humidity, we are looking forward to the many activities this summer.  Anthony will have a trip up to DC with the safety patrol, Alex has a ballet recital, the family is taking 2 trips, including one for Nicole's 20th class reunion, and a trip up north to see Kirk's family.  Alex went out for her first golf outing last Sunday, and wants to go out more often.  Kirk is starting up with softball again (I wonder if he will show his age), so there will be plenty to do.

End of Summer Hurrah...

With school going back into session for the kids in about 2 1/2 weeks, we are celebrating the "end of summer" at the beach this week. Though Alex seems to have picked up a bug and has been miserable off and on over the last couple of days, we have had a good week so far. We arrived on Sunday evening and after going out to eat at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., we went down to the beach just after sunset so the kids could splash in the Gulf. On Monday, after sleeping in a bit, we hit the beach around 10:30 in the morning and hung around for a couple of hours. Back to the rental for rest, and after dinner, we walked down to a local mini-golf course to "battle" on the greens. Tuesday morning awoke with Alex feeling a bit under the weather, but was back to normal for an early afternoon walk over to the beach. After about 90 minutes, we were treated to a visit along the shore line of a dolphin swimming about 30-40 feet off shore. Sorry, no pictures, but a good run down the beach trying to keep up and watch the dolphin swim. After resting at the condo for a couple of hours, we went down to St. Pete to catch the Rays vs the Red Sox (pictures at Facebook).  We left the game after the 10th inning with two tired kids, and Anthony wanting more. Wednesday was mostly a rain out, with thunderstorms in the morning and rain showers most of the afternoon.  It cleared up enough for Anthony to do a quick splash at sunset. More to do tomorrow.  Hopefully the kids will go out with their new wave boards.

Kids and their activities

This weekend has so far been our slowest of the month. Only one baseball game and ballet class was on the agenda this morning. :) This lack of activity possessed me to try to do some spring cleaning in the boys room. And what an undertaking that is....it is hard to realize how much stuff can accumulate in their room...and theirs is the cleaner of the kids' rooms. Nicole says that it is typical for a girl's room, but with Alex seemingly taken over every stuffed animal any of the 3 kids received as gifts, I'm afraid that I need a whip and chair just to tame the beasts. Homework day tomorrow....with more cleaning.
